The general consensus is that this was one of the best parades in its 40 year history. As is the case with any event of its size, it takes a lot of forces to come together (and yes, we did have the Star Wars Storm Troopers at this year's event) to make the parade work year after year and to have the kind of support from both inside and outside of the community that it has garnered.
Needless to say, staging a parade is expensive and we couldn't do it without the support of our sponsors, old and new. A big Weston 'Thank You' to: Castlepoint Numa, West22/Rhapsody Development, Central Ontario Buidling Trades, Greater Toronto Airport Authority, Irving Tissue, TD Canada Trust, RBC, BMO, Ward Funeral Home, Shoppers Drug Mart, Weston Lions, W Towns, Leonetti's No Frills, Squibbs Stationers, Somtech Wireless, Weston Property Managment (1765/1775 Weston Rd), Classic Towing, J.P. Towing, Weston Ford, Bargain Stop, Dr. Aliea But, Dr. Monica Katyal, John and Weston Pharmacy, Guardian Pharmacy, Popeyes Restaurant, Perfect Blend Cafe, Viscor Canada, Real Canadian Superstore Crossroads, Canadian Tire Crossroads, Bargain Stop, Poons Restaurant, Weston Cafe, Global Foods, Central Cafe, Brighton Cleaners, Mati's Coffee Shop, Tom's Variety, Waryaa Convenience, Al Baraka, Kendal Dry Cleaners, Nicola Eyewear and the Photo Centre at 1901 Weston Rd. And last but by no means least, the 200 member businesses and property owners who make up our awesome Weston BIA. Through a tax they pay to the city, they pay for 75% of the cost of the parade and some (already mentioned) give individual donations as well.
We had an amazing group of volunteers this year and I would like to thank them all individually or in the groups they represent; The Rovers (police officers in training) who close all the side streets leading onto the parade route and who have been part of the parade for the past 5 years: the parade day who worked all day from 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., setting up and decorating the Santa float, marshalling the parade, getting the characters into their costumes and much much more. Debbie Gibson Agata, Binyham David M and David A, Caleb, Mikie, Sofija, Vanessa, Danny, Nathan, Kenny, Rob, Patrick, Jansen and Bill and the 30 high school kids who carried the sponsor banners, it was a joy working with you.
On all the messages the Weston BIA sends out to the universe about our beloved village, we always say "We All Love Weston" and the community spirit that is displayed during the parade is one of the many reasons why. On behalf of the Board of Management of the Weston Village BIA and its 200 member businesses, we wish you and yours great joy and prosperity over the holiday season. And remember, when doing your Christmas shopping, Support Your Local Businesses, who have supported our Weston Santa Claus Parade for 40 years.
