The Amazing Performers at this year’s Weston Buskerfest
Nemesis (Scott Jackson and Dr Draw)
Scott Jackson and Dr. Draw had just started working together as a duo before last year’s Buskerfest and they tore the house (street) down. On their own, they are multi-talented artists; together they are magical.
Scott is a local Weston lad who has carved out a unique niche in the entertainment industry and has been voted Canada’s best beat boxer many years in a row.
Dr. Draw is known as the first violinist to venture from rock and classical into electronic music culture. The result is a constantly evolving musical style that brings together the seemingly disparate elements of classical violin, jazz-rock fusion, folk, and pop into a riveting masala that feeds the soul and invigorates audiences. From playing for royalty in Prague to creating near chaos at the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival to playing luxury brand events like Chloé and Dom Pérignon, Dr. Draw inspires kudos wherever he plays.
Pan Fantasy Steel Band
Formed many years ago in the Jane Finch corridor, where there is a large Caribbean population, last year for the fifth year in a row, Pan Fantasy won Pan Alive—Canada’s Panorama—in Toronto. And, If you’ve always wanted to learn to play the steel drum, now is your chance.
Hector, the Characaturist
People were lined up at last year’s event to have their portrait drawn by Hector. Of his work, he says his greatest joy is to see the expressions on people’s faces when they see their images caught on canvas.
We pay him extra to make everyone look amazing.
Living Vine Creatures are gigantic but gentle and friendly. They may surprise people with their ability to easily camouflage to their surroundings, then move when least expected and dazzle audiences with their majestic four-legged, ballet style, movements.
Betting you won’t realize their presence until they start to move.
Tim Holland, The Puppet Tamer
Master ventriloquist Tim Holland attempts death-defying stunts while arguing with himself. The zany characters Tim brings to life always steal the show. His show is highly interactive, so don’t be surprised if you’re lured onto the stage to be part of his performance.
The Ostrich Guy
The Ostrich Guy has performed many times in Weston and is a crowd favourite with both young and old. The Ostrich hugs and gives kisses to passers-by and he also makes cute ostrich sounds. Kids relate to this friendly, warm character in a way that has to be seen to be believed. He is one of the most sought after performers at festivals throughout Canada.
Bex in Motion
Take a spin with Bex in Motion: Her show incorporates dance, LED, fire and mesmerizing hula hoop tricks. Bex is a regular at Harbourfront and also performs at all the buskerfests in Ontario and throughout Canada. With her fun light-hearted attitude and ability to involve audience members - Bex will put on a show that is sure to move you!
Nathaniel Rankin’s Borderline Madness is a world class variety show that combines state of the art modern magic, circus skills, audience interaction, comedy & mind reading.
The show has been performed over 5,000 times in 35 countries and 5 continents. Daniel is currently touring the Japanese Islands, entertaining on one of world’s largest cruise ships (lucky dog!)
The Fire Guy (Brant Mathews)
The daredevil juggler, skateboarder, fire eater, and devil stick artist has appeared in busker festivals around the world, including the World Street Performer championship in Dublin, Ireland last year. He was cast in a Tuxedo alongside Jackie Chan. He is recognized as one of the world’s foremost fire performers.
ET The Mime and Human Statue
You may recognize him from his TV appearances on the Big Comfy Couch and more often on the Comedy Network. ET’s stage show is a cut above the rest. His show consists of comedic skits to music and audience participation. The humour, improvisation and stunning mime illusion packed into his show will leave you reeling with laughter. One of our store keepers was caught in his embrace at last year’s event, but you didn’t hear that here.
Silver Elvis (Pete Jarvis)
Another living statue, this time masquerading as Elvis Presley. He will blend into the background and, then, when you least expect it, he will be singing and impressing people with his imitation of the King’s favourite dance moves. Easy now, ladies, the silver paint may rub off!
Sean Rooney (Balloon Sculpture Artist)
Have you ever heard a balloon sing!
Not only is Sean a gifted balloon sculpture artist, he has created his own balloon orchestra, complete with guitar, saxophone, cello, drum and piano sounds, just to mention a few. He is looking for talented kids to be part of his orchestra.
