40th Weston Santa Claus Parade - Awards

Community Floats can make or break a parade and, this year, our community groups created some of most beautiful and and well deisgned floats this parade coordinator has ever seen. A lot of hard work, time and dedication was put into each and the results paid off big time.

Best Overall Float

Every year, this award is given based on (a) adherence to the theme (An Old- Fashioned Christmas) (b) costuming (c) music (d) interaction with parade attendees. The community group float that got the highest overall combined score for these categories is the Army and Navy Air Force Veterans at 1649 Weston Rd. A.N.A.F. has had consistently great float entries, but this year they outdid themselves.  I think you'll all agree their efforts paid off.

Most Creative Float

The Learning Enrichment Foundation at 116 Industry Drive is another community group with a history of excellent parade floats. We chose this float for an award because of its adherence to the theme in a beautifully creative fashion. The parade committee was blown away by this float and upon speaking to the float theme, we discovered it took two months to complete. Thanks to Anna and Iryna and the rest of the float team for their hard work and creativity.

Best Dance Group

Every year, we book professional dance acts, but our local dance school: Dynamic Dance Arts at 235 Dixon Rd stole the hearts of the crowd with their lovely float, beautiful costumes and well choreographed dance moves. Their teachers take such pride in every aspect of their student’s performances. Their interaction with the audience, especially those smiles is what wowed the judges and the parade attendees alike. For more information on their dance programs, please visit their website at: www.dynamicarts.com

Best Mascot/Costumed Character

Again, every year, we book mascots through various entertainment agencies, but the star of this year’s show was the Grinch mascot who was part of the float entry from Frontlines at 1844 Weston Rd. Not only did the Grinch entertain the crowd, he also kept fellow parade participants entertained. Frontlines offers a wide range of programming for youth and to research these programs, please visit their website at: www.frontlines.to

A Special Award

Not only does this group perform an invaluable service to the community, both in the parade and throughout the year, the costumes worn by the Weston Area Emergency Services at 1844 Weston Rd are so creative and on point and the group's interaction with the crowd has made them a crowd favourite every year. Each year, during the parade, the group collects  hundreds of pounds of food for the less fortunate in the community and if that doesn’t capture the spirit and essence of Christmas, what does?
